200 YEARS OLD AND STILL MILLING

Bi-Centenary Celebrations

Town Cryer

On Saturday 10th May, a plaque, to commemmorate the last miller John Russell, was unveiled at the Vestry Hall by Helen Grant, MP, with a bagpiper and a "town cryer" announcing the occasion. The Cranbrook Town Band played at the mill in the afternoon and the wind was most obliging so that we were able to do some milling.

An Art & Craft Competition was held for young people to create a drawing, painting or model of the mill. This was held during April and all entries were exhibited in the Russell Building (behind the mill) during May, with the winners in different age categories receiving cash prizes.

On Saturday 31st May, the Weald of Kent Morris Men danced outside the mill during the afternoon.
